Originally written as an assignment for a children’s literature class, this poem was written as an invitation enjoy something wondrous. It wasn’t until the ordeal of her sister, Shoshana Johnson, who was captured and held for three weeks during the early months of Operation Iraqi Freedom, that To Ride the Wild Condor took on a new meaning. Nikki felt that it was not just freedom itself, but what that freedom has given us and continues to provide that needs to be recognized and honored; and this book does just that.

This beautiful tribute to America and all who defend what this country stands for, illustrates the significance of the American heritage. This is done through the eyes of a young girl. Her flight across the United States, which showcases some of the country’s most cherished landmarks, easily promotes patriotism, freedom, and awareness of America’s culture and beauty to its readers.
